Tornado Hits Caledonia, MS
(01/29/08)

My new single The Old Rusty Anchor has a line that says,  Ill throw out one more anchor and rest with the Savior till it passes by (Speaking of the storm).

Having said that let me begin

En-route to a revival in Greenwood, Mississippi we stopped by Caledonia to visit with Jennifer & Kim (My Stepdaughters) and their families.  They gave me some black balloons as well as an over the hill, & the big 50 balloon for my 50th birthday.  We laughed, took pictures and had a great time. Little did we know what was in store the next day.  I made some calls, did a little work on an album that I am producing, then drove into Columbus while Debi, Kim, & Wess did some things at Kims house near Caledonia.  I was sitting in the drive-through at McDonalds when Debi called and told me that there were tornado warnings in the area. I made another stop and headed to Jennifers house where I was to meet up with Debi, Kim, & Wess.  Wess, age 3, had stayed home from daycare to spend some time with Granny.  Jennifers other two children, Bryce & Jordan, and Kims son Dylan were at the Caledonia Elementary School.  Jennifer & her husband Jody were at work.  The closer I got to the house the worse the weather looked.  The sky was filled with black clouds. Huge bolts of lighting were coming down off in the distance.  By the time I reached the house it looked like we were in for some very bad weather.  Someone said something about hail so I decided I had better put the car into the garage. Kim was going to open the garage door while I pulled in.  As I opened the door to go outside I looked up about fifty yards from the house above a little wooded area.  I saw boards, and debris swirling around in the air.  It was twisting and breaking the tops out of those pine trees.  I was scared.  I yelled to Kim, Get in the closet, its here! Its a tornado!  We all ran into the bedroom closet.  We could hear little rocks hitting a window nearby.  In a few minutes all was calm except for some rain.  We went to look out the front window and noticed that across the street half of one of the houses was gone.  Down the street looked like a war zone.  Several houses were destroyed.  We later learned that the school had been hit by a tornado.  What great news it was to find out the children at school were safe.  Other than a few broken trees there was no damage to their new home which was barely four months old.  We will forever be grateful to our God for his hand of protection.  There was much damage to the Caledonia area but no one was seriously harmed.

To God Be The Glory.
